Environmental Liability Insurance
At Pacific Ocean Marine Insurance Brokers, Inc., we provide comprehensive Environmental Liability Insurance to help vessel owners, operators, and marine businesses manage the financial risks associated with pollution incidents. Our coverage protects you against the costs of clean-up, third-party damages, and legal obligations arising from accidental discharges of fuel, oil, or other contaminants into marine environments.
Our environmental liability policies are underwritten through respected marine markets, including Lloyd’s of London, and can provide limits of liability ranging from $800,000 to $300 million. Coverage is issued using the London US Vessel Pollution Insurance Form and is tailored to meet the regulatory needs of vessel operators of all types, including commercial fishing vessels, tugs, barges, and passenger vessels.
In addition to core pollution coverage, we offer optional endorsements for:
- Fines, penalties, and legal defense related to pollution violations (where permissible by law)
- Emergency response costs including containment, clean-up, and remediation
- Natural Resource Damages (NRD) and environmental restoration as assessed by government agencies
We also facilitate compliance with federal and state financial responsibility requirements. This includes issuing Evidence of Financial Responsibility Forms (CG-5586) to meet U.S. Coast Guard standards under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. We can also obtain state-specific COFRs, including those required by California and Alaska, to ensure you’re covered across your operational range.
Coverage May Include:
- Sudden and accidental discharge of pollutants
- Spill clean-up and containment
- Third-party bodily injury and property damage
- Legal defense costs
- Government-mandated remediation efforts
- Loss of use or business interruption from pollution events
Whether you’re operating a fleet or a single vessel, environmental liability insurance is an essential layer of protection—helping to safeguard your business, customers, and the marine environment.
